Charles Babcock (InformationWeek) wrote an article about Citrix ’shifting’ focus at Synergy 2008, you can read the article here.
Perhaps he is right. Who knows? One thing is for sure Citrix is the only player that has the history, that has the team and the vision to integrate a solution that results into an end-to-end virtualization.
Actually we talk about virtualization, does it in that case matter wether the application, the server or the desktop is virtualized? The only thing that matters is the fact that once again IT supports business needs and the user has instant-on-access to his data, applications and OSs.
I personally don’t care who is winning marketshare in which segment: storage-, server-, application-, or desktopvirtualization, the only thing that matters is an integrated solution that can quickly adapt to changes in the needs. At present only Citrix is capable of doing this, and this is information I got today from VMware VDI users that have extensively tested with VMware. (They are now testing XenDesktop)
