- IBM announced yesterday their first move to cloud computing with a SaaS offering for contact management, instant messaging and file sharing program in their own data centers. The fee per user per month will be between 10 USD and 45 USD, general availability of the suite is foreseen for April 7th and it will be marketed under the brand LotusLive Engage (more)
- VMware changes the number of supported virtual CPUs to 20 virtual CPUs per core across a board. The maximum number of vCPU remains unchanges: 192 (ESX) and 170 (ESXi Update 3) (more)
- Cloud Security Alliance formed to promote security best practices a cloud computing environment. Founding members include eBay and ING, furthermore PGP, Qualys and vScaler are also member (more)

Hyper-V will be available in 30 days for download and it will be FREE, a nice competitor for XenServer Express, ESXi, …
Some info on the licensing:
- stand-alone product for free
- no CALs required for the product itself
- CALs required for all windows instances running on Hyper-V
- ML-support

Once again VMware is confronted with request from the public to make the source code of ESXi (in this case) available to the general public. Especially as the public believes that Hypêr-V is feature-richer than ESXi and ESXi offers some disadvantages on the level of management and other points.
Where will this go? Should VMware make the source code of ESXI freely available to all? After all the big brother ESX remains high priced and more feature-rich? What would the result be, when the source code of ESXi remains closed?

Edwared Haletky (cio.com) posted on an article how VMware is trying to keep Microsoft off, by providing ESXi for free, yet he makes the analysis about everything in life that is for free. Where is the catch?

Two weeks after its co-founder and CEO Diane Greene was abruptly dismissed, VMware – now run by one of Microsoft’s old rulers, Paul Maritz – disclosed exactly how much under its promised 50% year-over-year growth 2008 is going to be.
